Natural Sleep

How Does Drift Work?

Neubria Drift is a natural sleep aid that acts upon the biological pathways associated with sleep, such as the induction of melatonin production and modulation of GABA. It also helps resolve common issues contributing to insomnia, such as low mood, anxiety, and stress

1. Melatonin Induction

L-Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin that supports mood balance and melatonin production. Saffron, magnesium and vitamin D have also been demonstrated to be involved in the regulation of melatonin production.

2. GABA Modulation

Chamomile, Hops, and Lemon balm upregulate GABA as an effective mechanism by which they help deliver good sleep.

3. Comorbidities

L-Tryptophan, Vitamin D, Folic acid, and Saffron have all been demonstrated to be of clinical benefit in mood improvement. Anxiety and Stress have been shown to be responsive to Lemon Balm, Saffron and Magnesium.

4. Additional Benefits

Vitamin D has been demonstrated to reduce sleep disturbances, improve sleep quality, and sleep duration, whilst Folic Acid contributes to normal psychological function. Magnesium decreases cortisol and promotes relaxation and sleep. Chamomile, Hops, Lemon Balm and Saffron have all demonstrated clinical efficacy in resolving sleep issues.

Clinical Efficacy

A double-blind placebo-controlled study was performed to determine whether one week of supplementation with Neubria Drift improved objective measures of sleep efficiency, duration, and latency as well as subjective measures of sleep using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and daytime sleepiness using the Epworth Sleepiness Scales (ESS) questionnaire compared to placebo.

Results:

14% improvement in sleep latency time (equivalent to melatonin)

10% increase in sleep duration

8% improvement in sleep efficiency

16% improvement in daytime alertness

Melatonin has a half-life of 30-45 minutes. There is evidence to suggest that melatonin is not effective in treating most primary sleep disorders with short-term use (4 weeks or less). Drowsiness is reported as one of the most common side effects of melatonin.

5-HTP is generally converted in the gut to serotonin, where it has a local effect rather than reaching the brain. This increases the risk of gastrointestinal upset. Valerian can interact with prescription medication, and there is very little evidence that GABA given orally can reach the brain, and hence there is little likelihood of it having a positive effect in insomnia.
